Birkenfeld

Birkenfeld – Always worth a visit

The city of Birkenfeld lies in the middle of a charming low mountain range landscape on the southern edge of the Hunsrück upland in the Hunsrück-Hochwald National Park. The natural landscape with its extensive forest areas offers a variety of leisure and recreational opportunities for nature lovers, hikers and families.

The economy in Birkenfeld is mainly characterised by capable small and medium-sized companies in the areas of trade, services, agriculture and manufacturing. Birkenfeld is also characterised by an excellent mobility infrastructure and broadband connection.

The railway terminus that used to lead to Birkenfeld has been decommissioned and is now a beautiful foot and cycle path, which is part of the „Nature and Environmental Technology“ trail. This leads along biotopes and scenic landscape features to the neighbouring municipality of Hoppstädten-Weiersbach and the Environmental Campus Birkenfeld, an external site of Trier University of Applied Sciences. The campus grounds with their innovative environmental technology in combination with biodiverse biotopes is also part of this themed trail.
