The natural landscape with its extensive forest areas offers a variety of leisure and recreational opportunities for nature lovers, hikers and families.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The economy in Birkenfeld is mainly characterised by capable small and medium-sized companies in the areas of trade, services, agriculture and manufacturing. Birkenfeld is also characterised by an excellent mobility infrastructure and broadband connection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The railway terminus that used to lead to Birkenfeld has been decommissioned and is now a beautiful foot and cycle path, which is part of the \u201eNature and Environmental Technology\u201c trail. This leads along biotopes and scenic landscape features to the neighbouring municipality of Hoppst\u00e4dten-Weiersbach and the Environmental Campus Birkenfeld, an external site of Trier University of Applied Sciences.
